Cloud Lab-21: How to Install vCenter Update Manager (VUM) – “VUM Installation” (Part 2)

Just for quick recall, in last post of VUM (Part-1), I have created/Configured the VUM DB and did DSN configuration on VUM Server. in this part, I am going to show you how to install VUM Server.

LAB-21 TASKS (Part 2)

In this Lab we will perform following tasks

  1. vCenter Update Manager Installation
  2. Integrate vCenter Update Manager with VCenter

1- vCenter Update Manager Installation

Insert he VCenter 5.5 DVD->Right Click on DVD->install and run program from your media

In VMWare VCenter Support Tools->VSphere Update Manager ->Click “install”

Click “OK”

Click “Next”

Accept the license agreement .Click “Next”

“Uncheck” Download updated check box. Click “Next”

Provide the VCenter information with admin credentials, Click “Next”

Because we I already created the DB, Choose “2nd option” and select the “DSN” as well. Click “Next”

Click “Next”

Select the VUM IP/FQDN, Review the ports. Click “Next”

Create a folder for VUM path repository on Non OS Disk (if you have another disk otherwise skip this part)

Choose the path for VUM Patches as we created in previous step. Click “Next”

Review the path of patch repository as we have changed above. Click “Next”

Click “Install”

After installation, click “finish”

2-Integrate Virtual update manager with VCenter

Go to VCenter machine login to the VSphere Client.

In VSphere Client->Plug-ins->Manage Plug-ins

You will see Update manager plugin is in “available plug-in” section

Click “download and install” link and install the plugin

After installation of the plugin. You will see plugin is available on “installed plug-in section”

Now verify/Notice a new tab will appear with name “update manager”
