If you have checked the “guide me” through wizard option when the IaaS component wizard finished, configuration wizard was automatically started, if don’t you may login to vAutomation Realize URL https://vr-vcac-vmexpo.local/vcac
Once you logged on. You will see at left side “My Gols Section” as highlighted below. If you are new with the vRealize. This goal wizard guide you through all the nessarry configuration required to run the vRealize automation.
The first step is to configuration tenants. There is a default tenants “vsphere.local” automatically created during. You have option to use it. But it is good pratice to create a separate one. Which excatly I am going to do
To create a new tenants. Click on “+ Add Tenants ” sign.
1-In In Add tenants “General“ tab -> enter a first tenant name “VMExpo” and description (optional)
If you recall, I have created a Organization Unit in active directory with name “VMExpo”. Which I planned to use as a tenants.
2-Enter a URL Name “vmexpo”, it’s a unique identifier for the tenant. Once done -> Click “Submit and Next”
NOTE: This URL token is used to create tenant-specific URLs to access vRealize Automation.
Each tenant must be associated with at least one identity store. Identity stores can be OpenLDAP or Active Directory. Use of Native Active Directory is also supported for the default tenant.
Next step is to create an identity stores for tenants -> Click “+ Add Identity Store”
1-As this identity source is for my tenants “vmexpo”. I entered a name “vmexpo identity”.
2-Select the Active directory “type of identity store” from the Type drop-down menu.
3- Type the URL for the identity store (ldap://vmexpo-ad.vmexpo.local) in the URL text box.
4-Type domain name, my domain name is “vmexpo.local” and domain alias (optional)
5-Type the “login user DN” and “its credentials”, along with “Group Search base DN” and “User search base DN (optional)”
NOTE: if you don’t know how to write user and base DN. You should use “ADSI edit” active directory Tools.
6- Once done, Click “Test Connection”, Check that the connection is working.
7-Click “Add”, (Optional) Repeat Step 1 to Step 6 to configure additional identity stores
8-Once done-> Click “Next”.
You can appoint one or more tenant administrators and IaaS administrators from the identity stores you configured for a tenant.
Tenant administrators are responsible for configuring tenant-specific branding, as well as managing identity stores, users, groups, entitlements, and shared blueprints within the context of their tenant. IaaS Administrators are responsible for configuring infrastructure source endpoints in IaaS, appointing fabric administrators, and monitoring IaaS logs.
1-In “Administrator” tab -> Type the name of a user or group in the Tenant Administrators, I already created one for my Organization “VMExpo” with name email@example.com. Enter the User name in search box and press “Enter”.
NOTE: Repeat this step to appoint additional tenant administrators.
2-Type the name of a user or group in the Infrastructure Administrators, I already created one for my Organization “VMExpo” with name firstname.lastname@example.org. Enter the User name in search box and press “Enter”.
NOTE: Repeat this step to appoint additional IaaS administrators.
3-Once done, Click “Update”.
Other System Configuration
There are some other configuration, which you may configure. Some system-level configuration is shared across tenants and some tenant has its own dedicated configuration.
A tenant administrator can configure the branding of the vRealize Automation console including the logo, background color, and information in the header and footer. System administrators control the default branding for all tenants.
1-From “Administrator-> banding” -> Uncheck “Use default” for your own custom branding. In “Header tab” enter the desired configure as highlighted below according to your Organization. Once done -> Click “Update”
NOTE: this branding is configured for overall System. You have option to configure branding of each tenants later in tenants as well.
2-Similarly, Click on the “Footer” Tab and enter information accordingly. Once done -> Click “Update”
System administrators can configure global email servers that process email notifications. Tenant administrators can override the system default servers, or add their own servers if no global servers are specified
1-From “Configure the system” -> Click on “Configure email provider” -> Email Server -> Click on “+ Add” to add your email servers. I don’t have any in my lab, so I am going to skip this step.
