When a user requests a machine, it can be provisioned on any reservation of the appropriate type that has sufficient capacity for the machine. You can apply a reservation policy to a blueprint to restrict the machines provisioned from a blueprint to a subset of available reservations.
Reservation policies provide an optional and helpful means of controlling how reservation requests are processed. A reservation policy is often used to collect resources into groups for different service levels, or to make a specific type of resource easily available for a particular purpose
You can add multiple reservations to a reservation policy, but a reservation can belong to only one policy. You can assign a single reservation policy to more than one blueprint. A blueprint can have only one reservation policy.
1-Configure a Reservation Policy
Fabric administrators create reservation policies to collect resources into groups for different service levels, or to make a specific type of resource easily available for a particular purpose. After you create the reservation policy, you then must populate it with reservations before tenant administrators and business group managers can use the policy effectively in a blueprint.
1-Log in to the vRealize Automation console as a fabric administrator. In my case, I have created one already in my Active Directory with name “firstname.lastname@example.org” and gave it permission to configure fabric group during “create Fabric Group” Configuration. Enter the “credentials” and click “Login”
2-Create at least one reservation.
You may choose “My Goal” walkthrough wizard and go to “Infrastructure” tab -> Reservation-s> Reservation Policies -> Click “New Reservation Policy”
Enter a name “VMExpo-Prod-Res-Policy-1” and description “VMExpo Production Reservation Policy “optionally. Click on the “green check box” to save the reservation policy.
Verify your added reservation policy
Similarly you can create other reservation policies as well.
2-Assign a Reservation Policy to a Reservation
When fabric administrators create a reservation, the option to assign that reservation to a reservation policy appears. To assign an existing reservation to a reservation policy, you edit the reservation.
You may choose “My Goal” walkthrough wizard and go to “Infrastructure” tab -> Reservations> Reservations-> Click on already created reservation “RG-Cluster-Res-1” and Choose “Edit”
In Edit Reservation -> “Reservation Information” tab -> select your reservation policy “VMExpo-Prod-Res-Policy-1” from the Reservation Policy drop-down menu. Once done, click “OK”.
Repeat the same process to assign reservation policies to other Reservations.
